As promised, here is my recap of Day 2 of the Spark Sessions Fashion and Beauty Blogger Conference. We kicked off the day with the session, It’s About Who You Know: Building Relationships with PR Professionals. While I learned a lot from every session this weekend, this was one of my favourites as I was not only able to hear about interacting with PR professionals from a blogger’s perspective, but also as a future PR professional. Isabelle Randez of L’oreal Luxe, Ruth Goudie of Benefit Cosmetics and Noor Marzook of NATIONAL Public Relations shared the do’s and don’ts of contacting and working with PR professionals. Some of their advice included knowing who you should be contacting when reaching out to a brand or PR agency, being sure that you fit the brand’s demographic, and maintaining a positive relationship with the professionals you work with.
Later, I heard from Rema Gouyez, Iva Grbesic and Natalie Ho in the last session I attended, Step It Up – You’re A Blogger, What’s Next? These top bloggers have been on Cityline, The Marilyn Denis Show, and The Social, respectively. They spoke about how bloggers have the potential to become media personalities, or can take their blogs to the next level, if they utilize every opportunity. Gouyez did both when she appeared on The Marilyn Denis Show and requested that her blog be shown on the computer screen. She was able to get the name of her blog out there and later, secured a spot The Social as their beauty expert! They also emphasized how important it was to have a plan or something you’re working towards, and the need to know your brand and your readers when writing.
Cheryl Hickey was the closing keynote speaker and every bit as incredible as you’d imagine her to be. If I walked away with any message from her, it was to go after what you want and never stop until you get there, seize every opportunity that comes your way, and that you don’t have to be fearless or overcome those fears, but you do have to not let them stand in your way. Truly amazing!
And finally, don’t forget to check out how I styled my outfit for day two of Spark Sessions. Be sure to read until the end as I have some exciting news about a contest!
